Hands On Our Park website (unofficial) - our sources - Town Park Marketing Strategy 2004 - 2007
Back to 'Sources' | Management Plan | Cabinet report
The Town Park Marketing Strategy can be downloaded from here - the 'Contact Us' page at www.telfordtownpark.co.uk. It's a manageable download, just over 1 Mb.
The SWOT analysis may be of interest:
Strengths:
Central location; accessible; product strength – unique provision, the only large urban park in the district; low product price – due to subsidy from the local authority; provides a quality environment; has private and public sector partnerships; appeals to day trippers.
Weaknesses:
Nationally relatively low public awareness; inadequate parking facilities; poor weather; limited marketing spend; mediocre service levels; poor communication between council departments; inadequate marketing strategies; ageing infrastructure.
Opportunities:
Expansion plans for the town centre; public transport improvements; Telford increasing in accommodation stock; investment in facilities/services through funding applications.
Threats:
Reduction in budget allocation - service cuts; stagnation in the market for visitor attractions; Planning proposals that lead to a loss of land or change in its use. (Our emphasis).
The Action Plan in this document is much shorter than the one in the Management Plan and at least no-one is still searching for those elusive boundaries. Some extracts:
- Ensure park entrance signs are attractive in design, of good quality, easy to read, have the parks contact numbers on & are well maintained & free from graffiti. Achieved 2003 (our emphasis).
- Review the procedure for reporting defective signs, in particular the local highway cycle route that runs through the Park. Target 2004.
- On the web site make it as easy as possible for people to obtain information about the park’s location, how to get their [sic] and what the park has to offer.
- Develop a community garden for the use by schools. Target 2004/5.
- By encouraging the conservation of the parks heritage features and the natural scenery on which the appeal of the park is based. Could do better!!!!
- By seeking to manage visitor flows at peak periods to protect the environment. (Erm, we thought the Park was largely unused??? Mention of the environment suggests unmanageable crowds in the southern end).
- Friends of the park group to carry out environmental projects. Target 2004. And???? (We are happy to say, on 14th June, that Friends of the Town Park are organising a Wild Walk on 21st June. Read about it on our news page.)
